The four most common personality traits found among "Alpha Dogs" are being highly competitive, witty, charismatic, and reckless. Sola is all of the above, and this novel, the first in the Peter Pan Man book series, proves it.Although the story begins at the end, it doesn't lessen the suspenseful final chapters, which detail this reckless yet talented man's dramatic demise in the corrupt wine and spirit industry.I'm glad I first read The Gym (Peter Pan Man Book #2) because, in many ways, it was easier to sympathize with the author, who is Peter Pan Man.Like book #2, this is also a love story. Yes, a rise and fall, but the demise of Sola's career is a direct result of his relationship with his much younger district manager and the envious lurking behind the curtain of this well-written tale. Although many of them reared their ugly heads reviewing Sola's work, it only further proves his point about lengths "classic haters" will go to trash someone who is successful. In other words, much of this storyline is accurate and will be pretty relevant to a broad audience of this book series.Sola's leading lady in this is the star of The Show. Her name is Wendy Darlington, and she is a twenty-six-year-old who came in from another company kicking and screaming... until she met our flawed hero, Peter Pan Man. The pixie dust falls for many chapters detailing their "special friendship" and is funny and, at times, hilarious. As the storyline comes back to the real world, the two find themselves in a heartbreaking predicament. A song even made me tear up that ties to the book's name and suddenly shifts the plot to a much more serious subject: star-crossed lovers. This love story was not sexual and even more appealing because of it. You felt the pain they suffered through trying to reverse the feelings they could not control. This book was the perfect beginning for this Peter Pan Man and one that will undoubtedly remind us that all chapters in our lives do not end as happily-ever-afters.
