Golden Globe winner Anthony Tony Franciosa stars as Gannon, a thick-skinned cowboy wandering the harsh plains of Kansas. He comes to the rescue of Jess Washburn (Michael Sarrazin), who is about to be run over by a train, and vows to teach him the ropes of cowboy living. The duo soon walk into a heated conflict involving Beth (Judi West), a widow who is determined to corral a huge herd of cattle and reap the rewards. Beth wants to cut off her late husband's land, unfazed by the likelihood of destroying her neighbours pastures.
